 Jeffery Straker

Guest Support - Graham Hodge

I am delighted to be welcoming Canadian Jeffery Straker for the first time to a HAM stage as part of his UK tour.

Singer-songwriter pianist Jeffery Straker grew up taking piano lessons in a small farming town on the Canadian prairies,

and has gone on to Perform over 100 shows per year across Canada, Europe and Latin America.

The storytelling nature of his songs has the power to paint pictures and transport a listener -

out onto a lake in an old canoe or to the main street of his home town.  His music sits at the intersection of

contemporary singer-songwriter, folk and roots genres with critical comparisons being drawn to the likes

of Harry Chapin,  Kris Kristofferson, & Jackson Browne.

Performances have seen him live on CBC Radio, on stage with symphony orchestras, before festival crowds and in

intimate spaces like living-rooms & cafes.“He has a way of drawing us into his world and making us

feel like we’re a welcome guest; an old friend he’s ready to  catch up with” (CBC Radio)

With a career spanning 16 years and 8 albums Jeffery’s songs have been used in TV & film

(and even in a theatrical production) and saw him named “Roots-Folk Artist of the Year”

in both the 2020 & 2021 Saskatchewan Music Awards.

He was named ‘Keyboard Player of the Year’ in the 2020 Saskatchewan Country Music Awards & took home a

Western Canadian Music Award in 2019.

With a focus on making music that urges listeners think, he underscores it all with a message of hope.

He released his latest 10-song recording “Just Before Sunrise” in May 2021 and supported it with

55 concerts in his summer-long “Pandemic Piano Backyard Tour”.

The album was voted as #2 in the Saskatchewan Music Awards Best Albums of 2021 rankings,

by music lovers across the province.

Friday 2 December - Carrie Martin

Support from Rob Nicklas

Born in Hull, Carrie developed something a local reputation while still in her teens, as an acoustic guitarist and

singer/songwriter of no mean ability. Local radio support and popular live shows (including our HAM gig at The Half Moon!!!)

were left behind as she reached her twenties.

However, as her stubborn nature led her into fronting rock bands as a singer, and the guitar was largely dropped.

Music then became completely put aside as she abandoned it in order to raise her children, and her guitar went

untouched for some two decades until a chance meeting with guitar virtuoso Gordon Giltrap changed her life.

With the support and mentoring of Gordon, and also a very supportive relationship with Vintage

/ JHS guitars, she picked up the threads of her long-dormant career, with an EP, Luna, and a full-length album,

What If, appearing in 2011 and 2014 respectively. While widely praised, however, these releases served as the warm

up to her definitive work, 2017’s Seductive Sky album, on which she was joined by guests such as her great friend

Gordon Giltrap, keyboard maestro Oliver Wakeman and legendary guitarist Elliott Randall, along with Daniel Karl Cassidy,

younger brother of the late Eva Cassidy, with whom Carrie has sometimes been compared herself.

The album is a magnificent snapshot of an artist at the peak of her creativity, and determined not to let this second bite

of the musical cherry go to waste.

Friday 13 January 2023 - The Haley Sisters

This concert has all the hallmarks of being a huge success.

The Haley Sisters are actually a trio comprising siblings Jo-Ann and Becky and guitarist Brian Smith, the latter has worked in Nashville

for artists such as Crystal Gayle.

Their album 'The Sweetest Gift', which is one of four they have released, received national airplay, including  Bob Harris and

Aled Jones on BBC Radio 2. With their magical blend of vocal harmonies, dazzling flat-picking and slide guitar, coupled

with warm, funny stage banter that has delighted audiences for more than two decades, the group have performed at clubs, theatres, festivals

and events across the UK, Ireland and Europe.Their repertoire includes traditional country, pop hits and new-style alt- country. They have toured

the country with Nathan Carter and his band.

If you're a fan of The Dixie Chicks, Eva Cassidy, Emmylou Harris etc., then this is a show not to be missed."

HUNSLEY ACOUSTIC MUSIC are pleased to be working with CHERRY BURTON ARTS for a special event on

Saturday 4 February 2023  at The Village Hall in Cherry Burton.WHILE, MATTHEWS and WHILE

-will be there for your listening pleasure!

A concert with Chris While, Julie Matthews and Kellie While is a rare thing these days so when the opportunity arises for

the trio to perform together it’s a joy to them and their audience alike. The combination of the three voices together is

simply sublime, their choice and arrangements of songs often surprising but recognisable and the humour they share

on stage is both warm and engaging. Maybe it’s because performing live together is so rare

(Kellie is head of creative  output for a radio company and Chris and Julie tour with the duo, St Agnes Fountain and

Daphne’s Flight) that when the three of them come together, magic happens. Simply put, an opportunity not to be missed

.
